Phantom Fireworks pauses production due to tariffs

Fireworks Face Uncertainty as Tariffs Soar

Fireworks have long been a cherished highlight of summer celebrations in the United States, dazzling crowds during events like the Fourth of July. Yet, with nearly all fireworks sourced from China, a steep new tariff imposed by President Trump is threatening the industry. The tariff on Chinese goods has surged to 145%, a dramatic rise from just 54% earlier this week, putting local fireworks businesses under intense pressure.

Bruce Zoldan, president of Phantom Fireworks, a family-owned company, voiced his alarm over the situation. "We're very concerned. We hope that something will happen soon," he said. The tariff spike has thrown his business into uncertainty, as China remains the sole global supplier of fireworks. "Unfortunately, there’s only one place in the world that makes fireworks, and that’s China," Zoldan noted.

The financial strain has forced Phantom Fireworks to halt production temporarily. "Right now, firework production is stopped. We’ve told all our factories in China to pause for the time being because we can’t afford to buychapp at 145 percent, and neither can any other fireworks companies here in the States or worldwide," Zoldan explained.

This tariff escalation stems from ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China. While some of Trump’s tariffs on other goods are delayed by three months, the White House confirmed that the 125% import tax on Chinese products adds to an existing 20% tariff, totaling 145%. The stock market felt the ripple effects, dipping as China retaliated with its own measures.

Still, Zoldan holds onto hope, collaborating with Ohio lawmakers to seek relief. "We’re working hard with our Ohio senators to hopefully convince the White House and President Trump to grant an exemption for fireworks," he said. His goal is to ensure Americans can celebrate the nation’s 249th birthday this year and its milestone 250th birthday next year without disruption.

For now, the fireworks industry waits anxiously, its future dimmed by the weight of these towering tariffs.
